What would you like to change in your experience? Could it be as simple as changing what you have said to yourself and your friends over and over again?
Consider what I have said and thought for years: “Every time, every month when it is the full moon I just can’t sleep. I feel like a prowling animal. Oh dear, I just know I will be awake half of the night!”
What if instead I decided to repeat something different, turning the idea inside out, flipping it over, putting it in reverse. “Oh, the full moon is on the rise. I just can’t wait. You know every time the moon is full I feel as if I am bathed in a silken blanket of shimmering white light! Bring it on Mr. Moon. I love your radiance. You comfort me. I enjoy the best sleep when you are full. I rest as deeply as a sleeping peaceful baby.”
Could it be that all of us have told ourselves things that we truly don’t want? Could changing our thoughts and words make a difference?
Perhaps your often said phrase goes something like this: “Oh what am I going to do. Aunt Tilly is visiting again. I hope she doesn’t stay long. Every visit of hers just makes me angry and sick. Her ideas are crazy. I know I’ll have to go to bed by the time she leaves!”
O.K., what about this instead: “Aunt Tilly! Isn’t she just a piece of work. She and her off the wall ideas make me smile and laugh inside. I wonder what she has come up with this time. I can’t wait to hear her carry on. I just know I will laugh till my sides hurt after she leaves. I get such a kick out of her. Her antics put a smile on my face. She knows no bounds and no barriers. Oh, to be that free. What an imagination!”
Sometimes we are so much more powerful than we realize. Try taking just one of your “oft-said” ideas or words and rewrite the script. You never know. You might be missing a whole lot of fun and positive dynamic change.
What will your new experience be?
